Welcome to Mulgrave Primary School
We are curious when we learn, brave when we believe,
and proud when we succeed.

Mulgrave Forest School

At Mulgrave Primary School, we are proud to offer a rich Forest School experience right here on site—set within our extensive outdoor grounds. With generous space filled with trees, logs, rocks, and natural habitats, our Forest School provides children with the freedom to explore, discover, and connect with the natural world in meaningful ways.

Forest School is an inspirational approach to learning that gives children regular opportunities to achieve and grow in confidence through hands-on experiences in a woodland setting. As the Forestry Commission describes, it’s a process that nurtures resilience, independence, and curiosity—qualities we value deeply at Mulgrave.

Our Forest School is a living classroom where learning comes alive. From nursery children hunting for minibeasts to Year 6 pupils gathering around a safely managed campfire, every session is tailored to the age and stage of the learners. Activities are designed to spark imagination, build teamwork, and develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, risk-taking, and environmental awareness.

Outdoor learning is embedded across our curriculum, with teachers regularly planning lessons that take place in our Forest School. We are proud to have a dedicated Early Years practitioner fully trained in Forest School delivery, alongside a Key Stage 1 staff member currently undertaking training. Plans are in place to extend this expertise into Key Stage 2, ensuring all children benefit from high-quality outdoor learning throughout their time at Mulgrave.

These trained staff lead sessions and also support colleagues in planning and delivering Forest School experiences—ensuring consistency, safety, and creativity across the school. At Mulgrave, we believe that nature is not just a backdrop for learning—it’s a powerful teacher in its own right
