Travel for Life Gold Accreditation
Active Travel at Mulgrave Primary School
At Mulgrave, we are passionate about encouraging our pupils and families to choose active travel — walking, cycling or scooting — as their way of getting to and from school. Not only is this a healthier option, but it also helps reduce congestion and pollution around our school.
We’re proud to say that over 70% of our children now walk, cycle or scoot to school regularly, and we’re working hard to increase that number even more. Fewer car journeys mean cleaner air and a safer environment for everyone.
As part of our commitment to sustainable travel, our pupils have taken part in exciting learning activities across the school, exploring:
-
The impact of air quality on our health
-
How physical activity supports learning and boosts brain power
-
Road safety skills, including the Green Cross Code
Thanks to the enthusiasm of our children and staff — and a lot of hard work — we were thrilled to achieve Gold accreditation from Travel for Life (formerly STARS) in September 2024!
To keep the momentum going, we have a brilliant team of Travel for Life Ambassadors (formerly JTAs) who work closely with Ms Catargiu. They lead assemblies, run competitions, and organise challenges to promote safe, clean, and active travel across our school community.
Active travel is an important part of our wider commitment to health, wellbeing, and looking after our planet. Thank you for supporting us on this journey — one step, scoot or pedal at a time!
