Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
At Mulgrave Primary School, we believe that every child deserves an exceptional beginning—one that nurtures their curiosity, builds their confidence, and lays the groundwork for lifelong success. We are uncompromising in our commitment to providing the highest-quality early education, knowing that the experiences children have between birth and five profoundly shape their future.
Our Early Years provision offers a safe, joyful, and inclusive environment where children feel seen, valued, and inspired to learn. Through rich, purposeful play and carefully structured teaching, we support each child’s development across all areas—helping them grow in independence, resilience, and understanding. This strong foundation ensures they are ready to thrive throughout their journey at Mulgrave and beyond.
Our EYFS Curriculum
We follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, as set out by the Department for Education. Our curriculum is built around seven interconnected areas of learning and development, each essential to a child’s growth:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- LiteracyMathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
These areas are delivered through a balance of child-led exploration and adult-guided learning, tailored to meet the needs and interests of every child.
We also remain fully up to date with national guidance, including the upcoming changes to EYFS safeguarding requirements effective from September 2025. You can read more about these updates here.
At Mulgrave, our EYFS team works in close partnership with families to ensure every child feels secure, supported, and celebrated—because we know that when children feel safe and inspired, they learn to believe in themselves and succeed.
